Westchester Mental Health Guild
|
The Guild is a 250-member nonprofit volunteer organization incorporated to promote the cause of affordable mental health care in the LAX community and surrounding areas. The Westchester Mental Health Guild has been the primary supporter of Airport Marina Counseling Service, a community-based, nonprofit clinic that has been responding to mental health and related needs since 1962.
The Guild provides support to Airport Marina Counseling Service through The Guilded Cage gift shop, which is run solely by 50 volunteers; membership dues; and special fundraising events and activities, including a Holiday Home Tour, and a bi-annual Spring Garden Tour. The Guilded Cage transmits an e-newsletter to an ever-expanding mailing list. For further information about the Guild and to sign up for the e-newsletter, please call The Guilded Cage at (310) 641-7850 or visit the Guild website at www.westchesterMHG.org

The Guilded Cage Gift Shop
The Gift Shop is owned by WMHG and operated entirely
by volunteers. Located in the Westchester Business District
at 8917-B South Sepulveda, it offers a wide variety of
gift items,
jewelry, centerpieces, kids' books and toys and a large selection of greeting
cards. Net proceeds from sales have provided a steady
income for AMCS since the shop opened in 1975.
|
Support and Fundraising
In addition to the Guild's fundraising efforts, AMCS itself
engages in fundraising efforts year-round, including the August "Jet to Jetty" 10K/5K Walk/Run. A Campaign
for individual donations is held every year. Board members
and other clinic representatives regularly approach corporations
and foundations for support. Client fees account for only
40% of the funds necessary to keep this clinic operational.
In a state where health care services are frequently limited
to those who have insurance or to those who qualify for
MediCal, Airport Marina Counseling Service continues to
provide services from which consumers can benefit without
having to rely on legislative funding or to fulfill government
regulations.
For almost 50 years, Airport Marina Counseling Service
has helped many thousands of people to improve their daily lives. Our broad array of mental health services assists clients in addressing issues that compromise relationships, daily living, and the ability to hold and keep a job, or remain in school.
