And a great time was had by all……….Thanks to all who supported our March 27th Spring Event, "Weather or Not ... Rain or Shine!" It was Our guests entered the sky lit atrium area outside LMU's Roski Dining Hall. It was a festive and natural setting for a Silent Auction that included many interesting items for bidding. Cocktails and passed hors d'oeuvres enhanced the party atmosphere and there was great social interaction among our guests. Fritz Coleman offered a wonderful and very funny show and LMU's Chef Mercer provided a delicious dinner. Everyone enjoyed our "weather food stations" where they could stack their plates high with their favorite selections. Each table had its own "weather condition" name with a beautiful, matching floral centerpiece, which provided added fun for our guests as they looked for their assigned seats. A highlight of the evening was a personal story shared by one of our clients from our program at the Boys and Girls Club of Venice. She explained the positive impact our anger management group has had on her life. Now, able to manage her anger, she is looking forward to applying for college and is able to remain focused on creating good things in her life. With over 150 guests attending we are so very pleased to announce that all our silent auction items were purchased. And ... if you were there, you know we had some fun, lively and ongoing bidding during the live auction. Thanks to all who added to the excitement! - Terry Marcellus, our emcee and "energetic" auctioneer. Terry kept the evening rolling along with lots of humor and a fun spirit that put a shining "star" on the evening. - All our generous auction donors for the array of wonderful offerings to benefit AMCS. - All our support behind the scenes including staff at LMU and the LMU student volunteers, our auction set-up team, and all our AMCS staff and board members. - Special thanks to Loyola Marymount University for providing a great venue for our event and to Sodexo for a memorable meal. Airport Marina Counseling Service (AMCS) is pleased to announce it has recently received a $25,000 grant from the William H. Hannon Foundation to continue its support of the Hannon Immediate Intervention Program. The program, initially underwritten by the Foundation in 2003, is designed to provide urgent attention to those struggling with crisis and life-changing events. The great majority of AMCS clients are the “working poor” who often lack private insurance and for whom the services of hospitals and mental health facilities are often unavailable. “Over the last five years, The Hannon Immediate Intervention Program has become a key component of the services here at AMCS and it continues to make a real difference in the lives of the many clients we have served. We are grateful for the Foundation’s steadfast support of this important program,” said Kathleen O’Leary Lefferman, M.A, Executive Director of AMCS. The overall goal of the Hannon Immediate Intervention Program and services is to relieve or resolve the symptoms and improve coping skills within a brief structured therapy program of between 8 to 12 weeks of intervention. “Our Board has been very pleased with the success of the Intervention Program in meeting the needs of people who are not only in crisis but, without the program, would most likely not be able to find help,” said Kathleen Hannon Aikenhead, President of the William H. Hannon Foundation and a member of the AMCS Board of Governors.
