AMCS
HISTORY
In the mid-1950’s, there were no mental health
services available in the Westchester area. The lack concerned
community leaders, including members of the Police and
Fire Department, school officials, business leaders and
residents.
Officials and concerned citizens took years planning,
and finally, after its founding in 1961, on January 8, 1962, Airport Marina Counseling
Service (AMCS) opened its doors to meet the needs of people
in the area who were experiencing personal and family problems.
Since its grassroots beginnings until today, AMCS offers
effective, comprehensive outpatient mental health services
to the people of its community and surrounding cities.
Demand for services rapidly increased once AMCS opened,
and the clinic became the major provider of mental health
services to adults, children and families living and working
in Culver City, El Segundo, Inglewood, LAX, Marina and
Playa del Rey, Venice, Westchester, West Los Angeles, and
surrounding areas.
